When you are a sappy, hopeless romantic at heart, love sort of takes on its own meaning. I think that love is truly the most beautiful thing that this life has to offer. Honestly, despite how desperate this has the potential of sounding, I have always craved love so deeply that at times it is painful. Unfortunately, I've always been unable to properly express this to others.
Then I watched the movie Marriage Story. Now on its own, this movie is quite painful. As it follows the two different sides of a couple experiencing divorce, this movie perfectly encapsulates how a marriage can't survive on love alone. However, Marriage Story does not actually have anything do with the point I am trying to make here. It's just the first time I heard a song that was finally able to put my feelings about love itself into words.

*Sigh.* The lyrics to this song have such a powerful way of explaining what I believe love is. Despite all of the pain and sorrow that accompanies romantic love, I want someone "who'll always be there, as frightened as [me], of being alive!!" Someone who wants to hear everything about me, whether I like it or not. Someone I ultimately have to let in (how scary!).
Most of us are terrified of being alive. But what makes it so much better is having someone by your side who is scared of the exact same thing, but willing to stand next to you and hold your hand while you brace this crazy world together. And someone please tell me, what is more beautiful than that?
