Today’s the day everybody and it’s a pretty BIG ONE OKAY!? Why is it so big you ask? Well, because the person who keeps me sane is turning 23 years old. And anyone who can keep me sane is a damn saint.

Kendall Joy Reeves is one of the most beautiful humans to walk this earth. I met her in one of my first classes freshman year at Cal Poly when our assigned seats were next to each other. We had to answer questions about ourselves on little note cards, and Kendall and I both answered one of them in regard to how we like to sing! She also had really cute style and I thought she was really cool, but her quiet demeanor mixed with my anxious one made it so we didn’t talk much. However, from the first day I met her, I somehow knew she was going to be an important part of my life (or maybe I just really wanted to be her friend. Either way)!

Fast forward a year later, Kendall and I got seated together again in the same class that we unfortunately had to retake (science is hard ok??). We finally decided to study together at Scout coffee, where we ended up sitting and talking for a long time about life. After that, due to her introverted nature, I eventually was able to pretty much force Kendall to be friends/do things with me And of course, the rest is HISTORY!!

As for the trivial things, Kendall keeps me up-to-date on all things celebrity, like who broke up with who on the bachelor or who Harry Styles is currently dating (it’s really important stuff, actually and she’s very good at knowing). She’s my favorite person to learn tik tok dances with, obviously. I miss having zoom class with her, as we would text each other the whole time and try not to show our laughter on screen. Laughing together is what Kendall and I do best!! One of the absolute best things in life to me is having friends who match your sense of humor—Kendall does this in ways many cannot. Some might not understand our jokes, but that makes it all the more fun!!!

When it comes to deeper things, I could really be here for hours talking about this special lady. She has one of the biggest hearts of anyone you’ll meet, but her true, deep love is reserved for those in her inner circle who she cares about the most. This is actually one of the things I admire most about Kendall. She has a wonderful ability to use all of her energy giving to the people who truly deserve it and not saving much for those who don’t. As I’m someone who tries to extend my energy to everyone I know, even strangers, Kendall helps me stick up for myself and reminds me that it’s okay to say no sometimes! She’s also extremely patient, a trait I value and need greatly from the people in my life (hehe). Kendall also gives the absolute best advice, and often tells me things almost word-for-word as my therapist had previously told me (without knowing). Despite all of the challenges Kendall has faced in life, she still manages to have such a positive outlook. I don’t know how, but it’s pretty darn amazing.

These traits are the things that make Kendall an amazing teacher, one I admire so much. Though we are incredibly different people, I love that we are on the same career path! While I’m the kind of teacher who is a little bit of a mess and acts like a kid myself (which is fun and helpful to me), Kendall is a grounding, stable presence for the kiddos. I know her students are going to have no trouble feeling safe around her, which is something that so many children desperately need today. In fact, it’s something I’ll admit I’ve needed from her from the moment we first talked. And I really couldn’t be any more grateful for that.

We are cute lol

I’m so proud to call her my best friend and so lucky she wants to be mine! Happy Birthday Kenny, you are my mother-loving rock and I don’t know what I would do without you!!
